Milwaukee Irish Fest Back in 2001, Claidhbh received an invite to demonstrate his Boyne Currach Making at the Milwaukee Irish Festival in Wisconsin, in the U.S. He travelled over that August and built a traditional Boyne Currach on site – he brought an exhibition of his woodcarvings too and he created a huge amount of interest, so much so that the following year he was offered a stall in the Cultural Village to demonstrate and sell his craft.
On his return the following year, such was the local interest in the Boyne Currach, that a group had set themselves up as the ‘Milwaukee Boyne Currach Club’ With Claidhbh’s assistance they now have seven Boyne Currachs which take to the Milwaukee River regularly. Claidhbh continued to participate at the Milwaukee Irish Fest for a further two years.
